THE RED-EYE 100 KICKS OFF THE NEW YEAR AT NSS!
by Andy Sandall - FASCAR Media
It took just a couple of days into the New Year for the 2010 season to
kick off in style at New Smyrna Speedway with the traditional curtain
raiser, the Red Eye 100 for Super Late Models. As well as being the
start of the new season it also represented the first race of the
prestigious FASCAR Triple Crown championship, and gave Florida race
fans a chance to grab some early season racing while most of the
country was still covered in snow and several months away from heading
down to their local track to watch some meaningful racing.
The fans that braved a cold evening in Samsula were treated to an
impressive field of Super Late Models, with 23 cars taking the green
flag in an action packed race that saw plenty of lead changes and
battling for position throughout the field.

take the win. Mark Vandevender [#7] came home third, while Orlando Speedworld
winner from week 1, Earl Beckner [#51] suffered problems about half-way through
the event and settled for fourth.

The
Red Eye 125 returned to New Smyrna Speedway Saturday night with a huge bang
drawing 31 Super Late Models for the first leg of the FASCAR Triple
Crown and even included one NASCAR Craftsman Truck driver in the
field. Mike Skinner of Port Orange has not raced a Super Late Model in
many years but last night had a ball in his son's No. 5 Super Late.
Only
twenty eight of the Super Lates qualified as two were working on their
cars due to incidents that happened during practice. But it was Tim
Russell who set fast time followed by Preston Peltier, the only
out-of-state driver in the field and very fast, Wayne Anderson, Joe
Winchell and David Rogers. Russell pulled the 11 pill which put non
other than Mike Skinner of the pole for the 125 lap feature.
