Bright House Challenge Series Continues This Saturday
4-2-2014 New Smyrna Speedway

After a rain-out last Saturday night, New Smyrna Speedway returns to action this week with a 100-lap Bright House Challenge Super Late Model event along with racing in four other divisions.

This years' Bright House Challenge series is being run at both New Smyrna Speedway and DeSoto Speedway in Bradenton.  The opening Bright House race of the year was held at DeSoto a few weeks ago and saw Joe Boyd of Riverview top a strong 26-car field.  Wildwood's Wayne Anderson was the runner-up in that one with Jesse Dutilly, Scot Walters and "No Brake" Jake Perkins completing the top five.  All but Walters have indicated they will be in the field this Saturday night.

Travis Cope of Weeki Wachee is the defending Bright House series champion, but was not in the field at DeSoto.  Cope will, however, be racing this week and is the hottest SLM driver at New Smyrna having topped the points for the recent Super Late Model Triple Crown.  Cope won both the Red Eye 100 and Pete Orr Memorial in January, then finished second to Kyle Benjamin in the Bruce Gowland Memorial race that also ended the action for the World Series of Asphalt Racing in February.

Former Bright House champions David Rogers and Rich Clouser will be in the field this week.  Others expected are George Gorham, Jr., Anthony Sergi, Daniel Webster, Tim Russell, Anthony Cataldi, T. J. Duke, Daniel Keene, Jr., Chris Fontaine, Doug Elliott and Michael Atwell and several more. The E-Modifieds will also be in action this week and defending track champion Jarrett Korpi will be going for two in a row after his victory on opening night.  David Russell, the 2013 Mini Stock track champ, will also be going for two in a row in that highly-competitive class.  The Sportsman cars will make their initial 2014 appearance Saturday night while the Strictly Stocks will be in action as well.

Pit gates will open Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm with division practice from 3-6:05 pm.  Grandstand gates open at 6 pm with Super Late Model qualifying at 6:15 pm.  Racing begins at 7:30 pm starting with a 25-lap feature for the Sportsman cars, Mini Stocks for 25 laps, the 100-lap Bright House SLM race, 25 laps for the E-Modifieds and the Strictly Stocks capping the night off with their 20-lap feature event.  General Admission is $20 for adults and $18 for seniors (65+) and military with valid ID.  Kids 11 and under get in free.
