FIVE CLASSES OF RACING SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT AT NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY
8-21-2014 New Smyrna Speedway
NASCAR Whelan All-American Series action heats up again Saturday night at New
Smyrna Speedway with five racing divisions taking to the high-banked
half-mile. Kids will have a bounce house on site as well to have some fun
courtesy of Central Florida Raceway Ministries.
The Pro Late Models return for a fourth consectutive week before getting a
break next week as the TBARA Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars come to town. Brad May
became the ninth different driver to score a Pro Late win last week but it is
still Australian driver Will Carroll who leads the point standings. Carroll
opened up his point lead over second place Ricky Anderson after last week's
race but the margin is still a slim seven points. Zach Jarrell is third in
the standings, 26 markers behind Carroll. Those three young drivers are the
only ones to compete in every Pro Late Model race this year.
Joining the Pro Lates on the card this week will be the Sportsman cars, Mini
Stocks, Super Stocks and Strictly Stocks.
Donny Williams of Tangerine has a comfortable 44 point advantage over second
place D. J. Farr in the Sportsman point chase. Pat Wells evxtened his point
lead over David Russell to 16 with his victory last week coupled with
Russell's DNF. The recent close action in the Mini Stock division has led to
a few "hard feelings" lately and things could be a bit testy this week but the
track has issued a warning to the drivers to tone down their emotions, race
clean and put on a good show for the fans.
Shannon Kelly picked up another Super Stock victory last week and extended his
point lead over second place Mike Amato to 28. Jimmy "Spaceman" Barron
continues to be on top of the Strictly Stock standings but he, along with
everyone else, is trying to figure out how to beat the Saturn of Zachary
Curtis who has won three features in a row.
Pit gates open at 4 pm with division practice scheduled from 5-6:45 pm.
Grandstand gates open at 6 pm with racing at 7:30 pm starting with eight-lap
heat races for the Sportsman, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks and Strictly Stocks.
Following intermission, 25-lap features are slated for the Sportsman Super
Stocks, Pro Late Models and Mini Stocks with the show concluding with a 20-lap
event for the Strictly Stocks. Adult admission is $15 with all seniors (65+)
and active military personnel with ID admitted for $13. All kids 11 and under
are free of charge.
